DRIVER TRAINING

Today we completed a two-day driver training course. Annual and continuous driver training is required by our insurance carrier, but it is also a necessity when we are trusted with driving large, heavy apparatus to emergency calls. The first day of this class was spent in the classroom and on Saturday, April 22, 2023, we got behind the steering wheel to practice on the driving course. Each orange cone represents a child, a pet, a vehicle, a wall or some sort of object. Obviously, it is our goal to complete the driving course without touching a single orange cone. Yes, there were a few cone casualties but making mistakes and learning from them on the training grounds is all part of training. So, we do not make mistakes on the road when getting from point A to point B or during an emergency response. After a few retries, everyone was successful at completing the course with no cone casualties in the allowable time frame for the driving course.
