To apply for a Land Clearing Burn Permit, you will apply after joining our Community Connect program. Once the sign up process is complete, you will see a tile that says "Burn Permit" and will apply from there. The issuance of a land clearing burn permit is at the sole discretion of St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 and may be modified or revoked at any time if deemed necessary.

Valid for 30 days. If additional time is needed, anew permit must be requested.

St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 may conduct ongoing inspections to ensure the burn does not create a nuisance for nearby populated areas. The permit may be revoked if the contractor, developer, or responsible party fails to maintain reasonable standards of care.

St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 is not liable for any damage to your property or surrounding properties resulting from the burn. By accepting this permit, the property owner agrees to hold St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 harmless and releases it from any liability related to the burn.

The Following restrictions must be observed at all times, without exception:

​

  • Burning shall take place during daylight hours only. Burning not permitted after dark.

  • Burning shall be under constant supervision of the contractor / land owner at all times.

  • The burn site shall not exceed (25) feet in diameter, (10) feet high.

  • The area surrounding the pile shall be clear of any debris and/or combustible material.

  • Burning shall not be permitted during a burn ban.

  • Burning shall not be permitted when winds are blowing towards populated areas including neighborhoods and schools. (To be discussed based on land clearing site)

  • Burning shall no create dark or noxious smoke.

  • Contractor / land owner shall not use tires, crude oil, fuels or other substance to facilitate burning.

  • Only burning of natural vegetation such as grass, leaves, trees and branches is permitted.

  • The permit does not allow the burning of household trash, garbage or construction debris.

  • A water truck shall be located at the site and available in case of emergency.

  • In certain situations, burning may require the use of a portable Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fan or an Air Curtain Burner (ACB) (To be discussed based on land clearing site)
