MAN BURNED DURING RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE

PEARL RIVER, LA – Just before 9 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2017, St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 (Pearl River) responded to a residential structure fire on Craddock Ln. off of Hwy 3081. Apparatus and personnel arrived on scene and found smoke and flames coming from the home. Personnel made entry and quickly extinguished the fire isolating it to a bedroom.

One adult male homeowner was at home at the time of the fire, was awoken by the smoke and flames and attempted to extinguish the fire by removing burning debris. Subsequently he received burns and was transported to a nearby hospital via Acadian Ambulance for evaluation and treatment.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated at this time.

In total we had 5 apparatus respond including mutual aid from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 (Slidell) as well as additional personnel. The first engine was on scene in approximately 2 minutes after receiving the dispatch and the fire was placed under control in approximately 18 minutes.

We want to remind our citizens that working smoke alarms in their home will dramatically increase the lead time when a fire occurs. Smoke alarms alert occupants of a fire and allow them enough time to leave the home. Once you are alerted to a fire, quickly leave the residence and call 9-1-1.
