BOX TRUCK AND TRAILER FIRE

At approximately 2 PM on Friday, August, 8, 2014, fire apparatus and personnel from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 with the assistance from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 responded to the back of the Associated Wholesale Grocers warehouse on Old Military Rd. for the report of a trailer and truck on fire. Once personnel and apparatus arrived on scene, we were met with a large plume of smoke and flames coming from the trailer and the box truck which had already burned completely. The fire was accelerated in the box truck secondary to the flammable gases that were stored on the truck which was used for refrigeration repair and hot torch work. The exact cause of how the fire started is still unknown but does appear to be secondary to an accident with the torch that was being used by the refrigeration repair company. The box truck quickly caught fire and spread to the trailer which was carrying produce. No building exposures or other vehicles were in danger at the time of the fire and no injuries occurred.
